Project: PEPE

PEPE-logoLaunched in 2005, Project: PEPE is BBFI’s flagship program. Its title is a play on words: PEPE is at once an acronym that stands for “Promoting Excellence in Philippine Education”, the rallying cry behind BBFI’s various initiatives, as well as an homage to the nation’s model scholar and national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

Project: PEPE is an innovative system-wide solution to education development. It aims to provide sustainable education-oriented programs through the establishment of academic ecosystems with the cooperation of the government, business sector and local communities. It has been BBFI’s experience that there is a remarkable pool of resources available across sectors that can be put to bear to make a difference in Philippine education. The Bato Balani Foundation aims to be at the forefront of the initiative to bring these resources together by partnering with the various stakeholders who can put them to use most effectively. This is what Project: PEPE is all about.

Envisioned to be a nationwide campaign, the Emerging North Batangas Metropolitan Area has served as the test bed for the program since its implementation. The success of the initial stage of the campaign owes largely to the participation of First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH), which serves as a Project: PEPE “hub school” for the academic ecosystem in the North Batangas area. Already, FAITH has partnered with 44 schools in its academic ecosystem that have participated in and benefited from Project: PEPE initiatives such as continuing education scholarships for teachers and school administrators, interscholastic academic and sports competitions, and the improvement of e-Learning capabilities in select campuses, just to name a few.
