Welcome!

June 25, 2007

The rest of the site is now up and running, which means I get to inaugurate the all-new Bato Balani Foundation (BBFI) blog!

For those unfamiliar with who we are and what we do, here’s the short version: we’re a non-profit corporate foundation based in the Philippines that designs and implements education-related programs. We’ve been around since 1991 and keep a generally lean staff, though you wouldn’t know it looking at our portfolio of projects throughout the years. And in an effort to share more about the interesting things we’re up to, we decided to set up this blog.

(That’s it in broad strokes. The more formal and detailed version can be found elsewhere on the site.)

The past few years in particular have been quite exciting for BBFI, both because of the growing interest in Philippine education-related issues as well as current trends in corporate social responsibility. We have every confidence that the coming years will be even more so, and hope that this blog can offer a front row seat to what we do in the hope that it inspires others to help join our cause to work towards education development in the Philippines.

In the short term, this blog will obviously serve as a medium through which we will disseminate information about our programs and campaigns, not to mention the other philanthropic initiatives of our corporate benefactors and partner organizations. Over time, however, we hope this blog grows to become a portal through which people can find everything they need to know about education-related issues in the Philippines, and to that end we’ll be writing about (or featuring material related to) such things from time to time.

There are interesting times ahead for BBFI and all those specially interested in improving Philippine education. We hope you join us for the ride.
